The guilt and shame that you realize every day is not the solution to the dilemma you’re facing.

The problem is that you’re obsessed with the past. It’s over, dear. Forgive yourself.

If you want to correct the mistakes of the past, first, accept that it was a mistake, then forgive yourself and move on. You did your best with your understanding at that time.
