When the River Became Silent

I almost did not take this photograph.

The river was quiet that day.

Not empty.
Not still.
Just quiet in a way that slowly softens the mind.

Near the water sat a small murti of Ganesh ji.

The light was slowly gathering behind it.
Sky and river were beginning to look like the same thing.

Nothing special was happening there.

A few distant sounds arrived and disappeared.
The water continued moving quietly.
The morning carried on without asking to be remembered.

I stayed there longer than I intended to.

Not for prayer.
Not for answers.
Not even for photography.

Some moments become difficult to leave once the noise inside us begins to settle.

As the light slowly spread across the river,
the murti slowly became part of the silence around it.

For a few moments,
everything felt complete exactly as it was.

The river kept moving.
The sky kept brightening softly.
And nothing needed to be added to the morning.

Reading is enough.
