The Work of Finding My Way

Dharma Chakra — Yato Dharmastato Jayah

Between the place I came from and the life I am trying to build, I am learning what it means to earn a living without forgetting what matters to me. Perhaps this is where earning and Dharma meet—not in an idea I can explain perfectly, but in the choices I make along the way.

I remember the place I came from. I remember the journey that took me away from it. Between the two, I began trying to understand what it means to make a living.

I have spent years learning, observing, writing and developing skills. I have also learned that knowing something and making it useful to someone else are different things. The world does not pay us merely for what we know or what we intend to do. We must find a way to put our abilities to work.

And yet, I keep returning to a question that goes beyond earning.

What am I doing with the life I have been given? What responsibilities do I carry? How do I make a living without forgetting what matters to me?

I don’t have a complete answer. I know that work must be done, bills must be paid and people depend on one another. I also know that the way we do our work matters: the promises we keep, the care we take and the value we create for others.

Perhaps this is where earning and Dharma meet—not in an idea I can explain perfectly, but in the choices I make while trying to build a life.

In an earlier reflection, Build What Cannot Be Taken Away, I wrote about developing the capacity to begin again. I find myself returning to that thought now, as I try to understand how the skills I have built can become useful work and support the life I must live.

I am still learning. I am still working. I am still finding out what my skills can become and where they might take me.

The platform is leading me there, and the tracks are showing me home. But I don’t know where I am going.
