How To Forgive Your Past & Move On To Creative Living?

Creative living demands courage; without forgiveness to our younger selves, there is no courage. We keep on rotating around the same emotions of guilt and shame.

“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”

― Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

We regret doing nothing significant we can feel proud of. We criticize and abuse ourselves for being selfish and non-creative.

To move forward in life, we’ve to leave the past, and we must forgive ourselves irrespective of our mistakes.

Creative living demands courage; without forgiveness to our younger selves, there is no courage. We keep on rotating around the same emotions of guilt and shame. Fear and doubt keep on webbing us forever.

It’s difficult to free ourselves from the pain of the past. We’ve made significant mistakes that ruined our lives. Still, an ample supply of ideas can create magic in our lives.

Think of yourself as a child of three to six years. What you’ll do with her once caught with a mistake?

Will you criticize and abuse her?

Will you humiliate her?

No, you’ll try to understand the reason behind her mistakes. You’ll do your best to correct her errors through teaching. You’ll forgive and help her learn and grow with compassion.

There is a child within us who keeps making mistakes, and we must find ways to correct her past errors. We must have enough humility to forgive her. Only then is there a possibility to move creatively in our lives.
