Often we find ourselves in a state of not-knowing. We don’t know where to start. The knowledge and experience accumulated through years of learning seem to waste.
The books and role models whom once we worshipped become irrelevant. No one seems to be in a condition to help us. We felt alone, hopeless, and helpless.
What to do next?
To be true to you, I’ve no idea but what I do is question myself.
Who am I? Why am I here? What do I want?
The first question is existential, the second is philosophical, and the third is related to survival.
From here, I get a few answers that work for a few days after enough mental masturbation. These questions help me stay on track without getting distracted by my inclination. It also helps me to avoid any kind of addiction or displacement from my dreams and visions.
I don’t know what life is and how it works, but I know what works for me, and most of the time, I’m busy finding the tools to improve my status quo.
I’ve found repeatedly that questioning is the only way that works for everyone on this planet, irrespective of nationality, language, gender, and religion.
We can begin by questioning these three fundamental questions I mentioned above. Remember, we get different answers every time we meditate on these questions. Don’t stress too much about that.
Life is a dynamic phenomenon. If you get the same answers to a fixed set of questions, then it’s theory and probably does not work in real life. The practical problems must have dynamic solutions; then only they’ll be able to solve any real trouble.
From my point of view, the answers to these questions are not as important as the process of questioning itself. The process helps us see beyond our senses’ limitations to find a meaning greater than life.
If mere survival is the purpose of life, then we don’t need to think and act any more than animals and birds. But we’re human beings. That’s why we’ve got so much trouble figuring out the meaning of life.
We’re special not because we can eat, play, work, sleep, and mate; we’re unique because we can create. We’ve got the talent to produce something larger than life that a chimpanzee can’t do.
We’re creative beings, and when we fulfill the need for creativity that existence demands from us, we’re not animals, birds, or humans. We become human beings capable of creating a reality with that even the Gods fall in love to help us produce one more work of art. That’s our life’s purpose; for us as artists, it’s as sacred as meditation or prayer for a spiritual seeker.
